It’s not often the words “walk”, “pint”, “pie” and “rugby” all come together to sum up a charity event – but if it sounds like an intriguing way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Gloucester, read on.

People can step out to support two charities and enjoy a pie, pint and a live rugby match at the end of their walk.

On Saturday 23rd March, Longfield hospice care and Gloucester Rugby Community Charity is staging a Walk for Men starting and finishing at Kingsholm Rugby ground.

The 10km walk is open to men, women and children. It will start and finish at Kingsholm and wind its way through the streets of Gloucester.

Following the walk, participants can enjoy a pie and a pint (soft drink for under 18s) before settling down to watch Gloucester Rugby v Wasps.

All money raised in sponsorship will go towards helping men touched with life-limiting illnesses and their families, and also help to change people's lives through rugby.

Gloucester Rugby Community Charity aims to succeed in making a difference to the lives of many, inspiring and motivating them to enjoy a physically active and healthy lifestyle and transforming attitudes to learning through educational initiatives.

Money raised from the event will help support Longfield’s new Hidden Family and Carers project which will provide help and support for mainly male carers in Gloucestershire.

Every year Longfield, which is based in Minchinhampton, provides free-of-charge support and care to more than 700 people living with life-limiting illnesses across the county.

This year Gloucester Rugby Community Charity worked with over 150 schools, 50 local clubs and community groups reaching more than 12,000 young people, 2,500 disadvantaged young people through educational activities, and 400 people with disabilities and health issues.

All money raised will be put back into the charity’s community projects run across the county including their women and girls’ rugby programme, Gloucester Wheelchair Rugby Team, Mixed Ability Rugby, Walking Rugby and their educational programmes.

Brunsdon Financial Services is proud to be the sponsors of the Walk for Men.

There are 1,000 tickets for the match so people are urged to sign up so that they don’t miss out.

Tickets are £37 per adult or £18 for under 16s and include ticket to the match, a pie and a pint (or soft drink).

People who already have a ticket can still take part in the fundraising event. Entry is £25 for adults and £10 for under 16s.

Tickets must be bought by 28th February and participants are expected to raise a minimum of £15 each.

The match ticket, refreshments, venue hire and administration is covered by the entry fee.
