Western Counties North leaders Stroud face Gordano test on Saturday

It’s six wins out of six for table-topping Stroud in Western Counties North although their most recent bonus-point haul came via a walkover against Coney Hill.

Captain Dan Smith says the club would obviously have preferred for that game at Fromehall Park to have gone ahead but he did admit that having last Saturday off could work in their favour.

“We wanted to play but it does help our bodies recover,” he said. “We’ve got to use it to our advantage.”

Stroud have made a blistering start to the campaign, racking up more than 220 points in their opening five games as they’ve swept to the top of the pile.

On Saturday they head to Gordano, who although ninth in the 14-strong division, have won three of their opening five league games.

“There is no easy game in this league,” said 33-year-old loosehead prop Smith. “I know we’ve had a couple of big scores this season but no game is a pushover.”

And as if to emphasise the point, after Gordano, Stroud host second-placed Matson on 26th October before heading to third-placed Midsomer Norton a couple of weeks later.
