Cheltenham entertain Coney Hill on Saturday Cheltenham entertain Coney Hill on Saturday

Cheltenham host bottom-of-the-table Coney Hill on Saturday looking to make it five wins on the bounce in Western Counties North.

Their excellent recent run has propelled them up to fifth spot in the 14-strong division and their supporters will head to Newlands hopeful that they can add another bonus-point victory to their growing points haul.

With second-placed Midsomer Norton travelling to third-placed Avonmouth Old Boys, and with fourth-placed Matson facing a difficult trip to Barton Hill, there’s every possibility that Cheltenham will be that bit closer to the summit come Saturday evening.

Unbeaten leaders Stroud, who entertain Old Bristolians on Saturday, start the day with a four-point advantage at the top and they are eight points clear of Cheltenham, who have also played one game more.

But that has done nothing to dampen spirits at Cheltenham with Jack Petelo, joint head coach alongside Leroy Hughes, looking for the club to push on after last season’s brush with relegation.

“We’re doing very well this season,” said Petelo. “We lost to Stroud when we shouldn’t have and we also should have beaten Barton Hill.

“We needed a good start after only just staying up last season, we needed it to boost the confidence of the boys.

“All the boys want to work for each other, the numbers at training are pretty good and the boys are excited to come to training. They want to learn.”

And the club are certainly aiming high.

“We want to finish in the top four, but if we can get in the hunt for promotion then we will,” added Petelo.

The games are coming thick and fast for Cheltenham because after Coney Hill they travel to Gordano on 23rd November.

They then have a week off before returning to league action with three games in the run-up to Christmas – Matson at home (7th December), Midsomer Norton away (14th December) and Spartans at home (21st December).
