There was hardly a dry eye to be seen as the years were rolled back at Rallye Prescott.
Colin McRae's 1997 Subaru Impreza WRC took centre stage at Prescott Hill Climb, much to the delight of motorsport fans around Gloucestershire and beyond.
And what made it even more special was that the 1995 World Rally Champion’s car was driven up the hill by his dad Jimmy, himself a five-times British Rally Championship winner.
Jimmy, who is now 82, was accompanied by Colin’s daughter Hollie as he drove up the hill, and Dom Bessell, competitions administrator for the Bugatti Owners’ Club, said: “It was a fantastic sight, Jimmy drove the car up the hill two or three times.
“It was very special for the McRae family because they hadn’t seen the car for several years and hadn’t driven it for many years.”
The car is owned by Martyn Spurrell, and Bessell continued: “So many people just wanted to see the car, there was a sea of people around it all day.”
One of those people at Prescott on Saturday was photographer Rob Wilson, who said: “As soon as I saw the Subaru I thought, ‘Wow, this is very, very special'.
“Seeing the car brought back so many memories for so many people and for Jimmy to be driving it with his granddaughter Hollie just added to the occasion.
“It was one of a number of exhibition drives but that was the star of the show.”
Colin McRae, who died in a helicopter crash in 2007 at the age of 39, was crowned World Rally Champion in 1995.
His co-driver of 30 years ago, Derek Ringer, was at Prescott on Friday evening to help mark the 30th anniversary of that huge achievement.Other Images
