Sport and music is always a potent mix and this year’s Cheltenham 7s Festival has both by the bucketload.

The event at Newlands Park, the home of Cheltenham Tigers Rugby Club, takes place on Friday and Saturday 22nd and 23rd July, with Fred Million, one of the driving forces behind the event, saying: “We are now the biggest sports and music festival in the region.”

And Million’s excitement is understandable because the festival will become a temporary home to some 2,000 athletes who will be taking part in rugby, netball, dodgeball and crossfit.

The music is pretty good too with singer/songwriter Tinchy Stryder headlining and Cheltenham’s Keanan Sayce and Jason Allan providing the support alongside superstar DJ Cooper Vuna.

For those who don’t know, Vuna is a former Australia rugby international, with the wing, now 35, also playing in this country for Worcester, Bath and Newcastle.

“We will be hosting our dance party until 1am where the theme will be twisted neon,” said Million. “We hope to be hosting near on 6,000 people this year.

“There will be healthy food options and dirty burgers for all who are in attendance, children and families are welcome.

“Camping is available and the bar will run until midnight.

“There will be a Red Bull tent, clothing brands, ice creams, all day music – it’s a fun event.

“We want to stay humble to our roots and work with local businesses to grow the festival and make it as inclusive as possible.”

The festival starts on the Friday at noon with live music and sport all day on  the Saturday.
