The Cheltenham Football League raised close to £4,000 for charity last season.

The league, which was formed in 1900, raises money every season for good causes largely through its charity cups competitions and in 2018/19 collected of £3,861.

Ben Hill, the league’s results secretary and media interaction officer, said it was a “staggering total” and was grateful to the ongoing support of both the league’s main sponsor, Bristol Street Motors Ford Cheltenham, and the charity cups sponsor, CEMAR.

“Without such a generous sponsorship our football clubs would have to pay increased league fees and the league would not be able to ensure the three worthy charities were able to benefit from a very healthy donation of £1,287 each,” said Hill.

The presentation took place at Bristol Street Motors Ford Cheltenham and was conducted by Jamie Hughes, general manager of Bristol Street Motors Ford Cheltenham, and Ian Hamilton, general secretary of the Cheltenham Football League.

The three grateful charities were The Butterfly Garden, represented by Chris Evans, Cheltenham Sports for the Disabled, represented by John Gardner, and Sue Ryder Care, represented by Beth Davis.
