There are five Cheltenham Youth Football League cup finals at Whaddon Road on Sunday and a further four on May 7th There are five Cheltenham Youth Football League cup finals at Whaddon Road on Sunday and a further four on May 7th

Whaddon Road, the home of Cheltenham Town, will be the centre of attention not once, but twice, this weekend.

While Cheltenham Town fans are desperately hoping their team can secure the point they need tomorrow to ensure their future in the Football League for another season, it’s the players of tomorrow who will be taking centre stage at the ground the following day.

That’s because it’s the start of the end-of-season Cheltenham Youth Football League cup finals on Sunday.

Hopefully when Quedgeley Wanderers Reds and Winchcombe Town kick off in the under-9 final at 10am, supporters of Cheltenham Town will be contemplating another season in League Two after their club avoided defeat against Hartlepool United.

The under-9 final is the first of five games scheduled for Sunday and there are a further four cup finals, also at Whaddon Road, due to take place on Sunday 7th May.

Cup final dates:

11.30am – U10 – FC Lakeside Blues v Cinderford Town
1.00pm – U11 – Southside Star Tigers v Bishops Cleeve Colts Rovers
2.30pm – U12 – Lydney Town v FC Highnam

12.00 noon – U14 – Leckhampton Rovers Lions v Wotton Rovers

Cheltenham Youth Football League secretary Dan Bingham said: “A successful season culminates with the cup finals on Sunday 30th April and Sunday 7th May.

“Over 3,000 players are registered for participation in the league in age groups from under-9 to under-18. Over 180 teams started out in the league’s cup competitions and these finals represent a major highlight in any young footballer’s season.

“We are grateful to Cheltenham Town FC for the use of Whaddon Road and to our league sponsors S. Turier & Sons.”
