Chanel Resin Cuff - £770 Chanel Resin Cuff - £770

Lemon, lavender, pistachio, strawberry… No, I’m not talking sorbet. If there’s one trend you won’t be able to escape this season it’s the deliciously delightful ice cream colours. Making their first appearance on the runways for the likes of Celine, Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham, the high street is now filling up with cotton coloured candy. From figure-flattering suits to dainty summer dresses, this month is all about how to become sorbet stylish without looking too sickly sweet.

If the designer labels take your fondant fancy, introduce these soft, powdery hues into your accessories. Taking inspiration from the Resin Cuff from Chanel (right) is not exactly an impulse buy at £770, but definitely adds the subtle hint of a pastel palette into any outfit. If you’ve got more than a few 99’s in the bank, you could carry around the literal definition of arm candy this summer, with the puzzle colour-block shoulder bag from Loewe (below). Available at Net-a-porter.com, this lovely leather is more than a payday purchase at £2,100 but is the ultimate fusion of sorbet shades.

As for your wardrobe, these playful palettes not only bring us gently out of winter, but fill our summer season with an array of our favoured fabrics, all sporting the softer shades. Step forward denim, tulle, chiffon, linen, cotton, silk… no fabric is exempt!

Embrace subversive fabrics

For a more high fashion approach, embrace subversive fabrics like viscose and patent if you want to avoid looking prim and keep tailoring sharp. Zara has taken on this trend with powder dressing power. This stylish but simplistic top with button detail in mauve (below) is more runway ready than off the rack, and at £15.99 it’s a bargain buy into this trend.

If something more casual is more your style, check out the new up and coming brand Whale Of A Time Clothing. They have created the perfect capsule collection, catering for this trend by including pieces using a paler palette. From those beach to bar sweatshirts, t-shirts and the classic deck shirt, their retro-inspired twist on the Omura sweatshirt (see model, below) hangs in my own wardrobe and not only comes in three colour-ways, but is the ideal coastal companion for those lazy summer days by the sea. It’s also an affordable fashionable essential at £42.95.

Sorbet shades work well with geometric prints

Sorbet shades work beautifully with geometric prints, so mix up your chosen pieces to emphasise the contrast between modern graphic lines and the soft, subtle colouring for a fresh and modern feel. If you’ve never considered a baby-blue trouser suit or a buttercup yellow co-ord set, I encourage you to think again.

Pastels are undergoing a modern-day makeover – no longer just for the girly-girl, the new way to wear them is with a tailored twist. Whether this means clashing to the max by teaming a dusty pink dress with fishnet tights, or pairing your ice-blue blouse with a mini, take on this trend with a modern day attitude!

Build a foundation from your trusty black wardrobe

If a full look of lilac is your worst nightmare, fret not. Start slow and build a foundation from your trusty black wardrobe, accessorising around a staple with accessories in those softer shades. However you choose to dress up your chosen scoop, remember in order to be picture perfect this summer, you need to be pastel perfect.
