Popular summer fashion items

Following last month’s look at summer attire, there are a few more fashion items in trend at the moment that you may be keen to get your hands on.

Slogans
It’s hard to find a t-shirt that does not display a slogan or print of some description at the moment. While it used to be popular to have the designer’s name on your top, nowadays clothes are covered in all kinds of slogans, from popular phrases or quotes, acronyms and even the latest slang that will soon be added to the Oxford English Dictionary! Motifs are also popular and give a summery feel to your wardrobe, with anything from large birds like flamingos and cranes, to various fruits, cocktails and popular holiday destinations all featuring in the high street shops.

Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits and playsuits still maintain great popularity, as they can be dressed up for evening occasions, or kept simple for a quick trip to the beach. They’re not the easiest item to get on and off, so I suggest you try before you buy to ensure it is a comfortable style for you.

Asian Style
Boxy Kimono jackets with dropped style sleeves are easy to wear and can dress up any outfit. Many come in Asian style prints on some wonderful satin fabrics, and the choice out there is huge, so there is certainly something for every age. A boxy jacket like this is a useful addition for any wardrobe, as you can use in so many ways. It certainly updates any dress you may have, but is useful as well for covering the upper arms.

Modesty Dresses
There appears to be a return to more ladylike dresses and evening wear, which covers you far more than we have seen over the last few seasons. A-Listers walking the red carpet seem to be covering up, rather than seeing how much of their skin they can expose. This look is set to stay for a while, which might just suit some of us who have not been going to the gym as often this year as we promised ourselves! One word of caution – if there is too much fabric, it could be hard to wear and may not always be flattering. Try to find a sleek, well-cut look for class and comfort.

Blouses
Folk style blouses with long sleeves are very popular and come in a variety of styles, many with pretty patterns and embroidery on them. Sleeves once again dominate and are getting ever more eye-catching. Bows, cut outs, frills, huge decorative cuffs (be careful when dining) – you name it, blouses have it. Check if they are washable, as fancy design work often costs a fortune to dry clean. Many tops you will find shorter in the front with a longer hem line at the back. This look can be rather flattering and works well with leggings and trousers – not so well with a skirt.

Block Heels
Think of The Queen and her ever solid and comfortable shoes that she always wears – now you can too! The block heel is everywhere this season, from low to high heel blocks, this style is of course generally easy and comfortable to wear. Many have a real retro feel in their design, some have a plexi plastic heel, while others are jewelled and look incredibly dressy.

Designer Bags
Many of us would struggle to afford a genuine designer handbag, as they can cost a fortune. Chloé has designed a smaller bag than we have been used to, with round solid handles, and the high street has picked up on this look – the round handle is everywhere! Some of the handles are in solid plastic, others in leather; it is certainly a neat look. I think perhaps designers have woken up to the fact we don’t always want to look like we are carrying a small suitcase around every day, so smaller is back!
