Back to the 90s

Being born in 1997, I am just about categorised as a 90s child. This is something I am proud of – what a brilliant decade to grow up in. My true 90s-self came out the other day when I bought myself a clear shoulder bag with a huge yellow smiley face printed on the front of it. I absolutely loved it, until it unfortunately ripped only 2 weeks later! I guess that’s what I get for trusting all my belongings in a thin plastic shoulder bag. Anyway, that’s beside the point. What I’m trying to say is, the 90s trend is back!

The ‘wash and go’ look is brilliant in the summer
Last month we delved into the minimalistic make-up look and I showed you how to use your make-up sparingly to match the latest trends. This month, although I have been avoiding make up as much as possible, I’m going to explore the ‘wash and go’ look, which is brilliant in the summer months, and how those bright pink eyeshadows are back in – something that excites me greatly.

Wash and go – is that lazy-talk for “don’t bother dressing up or making up because that’s the trend this summer”? Basically, yes, and I am loving it. Natural hair is what people are loving lately. So, give that hair a wash and leave it to naturally dry – not even using a hairdryer. No matter what the outcome is, you’ll look trendy.

If you feel your hair can’t be trusted to dry neatly by itself, a product I used to use regularly is salt spray. This quick and easy to use product adds texture to your hair, giving you those beachy waves. It is an inexpensive product – I believe mine cost me around the £3 mark. However, you can create your own salt spray easily, with just a few ingredients. All you need is:

  • 8 fl oz water
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 2 tsp coarse salt
  • 1 tsp strong hold gel
Just pop all the ingredients in a spray bottle, shake well before use and you’ll have beachy waves at your fingertips.

Again, minimal make up is what people are loving. Let those freckles free and don’t forget those shiny lip glosses, something that was all the rage back in the 90s.

Pink is back!
My favourite colour pink is back, adorning the streets of Gloucestershire, and one thing I never thought would grace our faces again was a bright pink eyeshadow – sparkly pink if you’re feeling daring! That’s right, pink blush and eyeshadow are back on the scene, so whether it’s a flash of hot pink on your lips, a brush of baby pink on your eyelids, or even some striking pink highlights weaved into your hair like our old style icon Christina Aguilera, bring pink back to life this season.

Feel good about yourself
Most importantly, it’s summer, so wear whatever you feel comfortable and confident in and you’ll be admired by those around you. Beauty comes from within – as cheesy as it sounds – so dress how you want and feel good about yourself. That’s what is most important!
