Post-party skin savers

With summer fast approaching, detox remedies are top of our shopping list right now, and if your body is in need of a deep-cleansing detox too, it’s time to purchase those perfect pick-me-ups to reinvigorate you inside and out.

Wake up your skin
There’s no better way to relieve the post-party burn out than with a soothing facemask. A revitalising facemask contains the essential oils you need to wake up your skin, which not only smell nice, but it also encourages cell renewal and tones the skin. Facemasks are packed with vitamin E, which gently soothes tired and stressed skin – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t feel this way after a heavy night!

Montagne Jeunesse do ‘kind to your skin’ facemasks that will leave it feeling brand new. Their 7th Heaven Beauty Treats are for the face, hair, feet and body and are made by their own herbalists using natural ingredients from around the world. There are so many to choose from so treat your skin to what takes your fancy! I would recommend the Manuka Honey Peel Off mask made with honey from New Zealand – it’s a natural cleanser with flower nutrients from Jasmine, which also make it smell amazing!

Brighten up a dull complexion with vitamin C
We all want vitamin (sea) C in our lives and when it comes to skin, it’s an absolute essential. Choose products with this in the ingredients, as it gives even the tiredest of complexions a super smooth finish and its light reflecting particles brighten up a dull complexion.

For this I would invest in a St. Ives facial scrub. The Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub is from America’s number 1 scrub brand, and the award-winning scrub uses 100% natural exfoliants, which deep clean, instantly leaving skin smooth and glowing with an apricot scent!

It’s not just your complexion that can suffer after a big night out – unfortunately alcohol can cause lips to become cracked, dry and flaky too. Not only is this never a good look (note to self: avoid red wine when your pout is parched – no one likes the red wine mouth) so the morning after is the time to reach for Crabtree & Evelyn’s Aloe Vera Soothing Lip Balm. At only £3 it gives you pure softness, as this conditioning lip balm contains Aloe Vera extract, soybean oil, beeswax and vitamin E to ensure lasting moisture and a delicate herbal flavour. Simply smooth it on for instant restoration!

Toxin-busting herbs
You’re either a fan of herbal tea or not, so my suggestion is only to embrace Dr Stuart’s if you are well versed in herbal infusions. The brand is pretty much top dog in its area and the Liver detox tea is no exception. After a night of abusing it, giving our liver a detox is the least we can do! Incorporating a blend of toxin-busting herbs, including dandelion root, liquorice root, camomile and milk thistle, there’s no denying the rather bitter aftertaste of Liver detox - a slight wince after every sip is evidence enough - but you endure for its deep-cleansing abilities!

So, while it improves your dance moves, alcohol strips your skin of moisture leaving it dull, dreary and suffering with the hangover blues. My advice? Treat your skin to a facemask, followed by a facial scrub to rid your face of any dead skin cells, apply some softening lip balm and (try to) enjoy a herbal tea before bed and you’ll be back on track to looking as good as you did pre-night out. Hangover schmangover!
