The Roses Youth Theatre this month will be holding their Summer Showcase, as children of all ages take to the stage.

The Youth Theatre has been run by Nancy Robb for two years.

Having grown up in Gloucestershire, Nancy moved to London to study, and earned a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from the University of North London.

“A Performing Arts degree trains you as a well-rounded performer – acting, singing, dancing and also the production side of things,” she said.

“While living in London I saw a vast difference in what is on offer for young people in the capital compared with what I knew growing up in rural Gloucestershire.

“Getting involved in the Roses Youth Theatre gives me the opportunity to get children involved in drama and teach them skills so they can evolve as performers themselves.”

Nancy now works with children from the ages of five to eighteen, teaching them about drama, theatre and performing.

“The Roses Youth Theatre is split over 4 groups,” she continued. “Beginners (School years 1-3), Juniors (4-6), Seniors (7-9) and Company (years 10+).

“We run weekly sessions for each group throughout the school year.”

The Summer Showcase will feature each of the four age groups performing at The Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury.

Beginners will be taking their first steps onto the stage and Juniors are set to explore storytelling featuring tales from Roald Dahl.

The Seniors will be taking on the challenge of improvisation, whilst the eldest group, the Company, will be presenting their own show on the theme of ‘Alone Together’.

Nancy said: “I introduced the Summer Showcase last year when I took on the Youth Theatre as it is common practice in drama schools etc to review the work they have done in the year. It give all participants a chance to perform in a professional theatre environment.

“The Summer Showcase is the children’s chance to perform on stage at The Roses and share what they have been working on this year.”

The Roses Youth Theatre Summer Showcase is at the Roses Theatre on Sunday 23rd June.

For Nancy, the show is set to be one of the highlights of the theatre’s year.

“I am one of those lucky people who absolutely love their job,” she added.

“It can be challenging, anyone who works with children and teenagers will agree but seeing them grow and become young performers is so rewarding.

“New members are always welcome and we even offer a few taster sessions.”
