It’s been an exciting few years for singer and songwriter Verity White.

Now lead vocalist of her eponymous band and with a new album on the way, it’s fair to say it took the Gloucestershire-raised singer a while to gain the confidence to put herself out into the public eye.

She said: “I’ve been writing my own music since I was about 12, but never shared it with anyone out of fear.

“Then I released my first EP in 2016 and it’s been snowballing from there ever since!”

Originally from Brecon, Verity grew up in Gloucestershire, and recently moved to Prestbury with her husband and band guitarist Alex, who also happens to run a recording studio in the village.

“That’s not the reason I married him!” laughed Verity. “It’s actually really good working with him – we don’t even argue!

“We’ve been recording the new album over the last couple of months and it’s gone really well, it’s really exciting.

“I think we’re sounding more cohesive, we’ve really found ‘our sound’. In the past we’ve been a bit all over the place but now we’re more focused.”

The type of sound that Verity and her band have adopted comes from a wide array of influences – from grungy, alternative rock bands like Nine Inch Nails and Garbage, to iconic vocalists like Alanis Morisette and PJ Harvey.

Verity added: “I’d say we’re ‘melodic rock’, we take influence from the 90s rock scene and add in synths and things like that. Some of our new tracks are really catchy, sing along type songs.”

Alongside Verity and Alex – who is “Cheltenham born and bred” – are fellow Cheltonians Alex McIntosh on drums, and Joe Kelly, who plays bass.

Together the four are set to launch the band’s latest album – ‘RECLAIM; SET FIRE’ – at a special evening at the Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham on Saturday 16th February.

Verity was able to fund production of the album through an ongoing crowdfunding campaign, which offered fans signed CDs, merchandise and tickets to the launch party in return for their support.

Even in the world of music streaming that we find ourselves in today, Verity was dead set on producing a physical CD – a rarity for many up and coming independent bands.

She said: “It was important to me that we made a physical CD, especially for fans that supported us through the funding campaign.

“We are going to put the album up on streaming sites from March too, but we know that our fans like to feel a CD, and we just want to make them happy!”
