Cantores Chamber Choir is busy rehearsing for their forthcoming concerts in Gloucestershire.

This popular amateur choir has formed an impressive reputation after over 25 years of performing both a cappella and accompanied by organ or string ensemble.

Long-standing member Aileen Graham said: “We formed in 1991 and have around 30 members.”

“We usually do around six performances a year, and we tend to do them in pairs. We like to do the same programme at two different venues.”

The choir is made up of volunteers who all enjoy the experience of singing and the camaraderie that comes with being part of a choir.

Aileen said: “We are a group of enthusiastic amateur musicians and we’re all good friends. We rehearse once a week, at Rendcomb College, and usually go to the pub afterwards!”

Aileen will be joining her fellow chorus members for two concerts this autumn. On Saturday 17th November, the choir will be at Cirencester Parish Church, and on Saturday 24th they will be at St Mary’s Church in Charlton Kings.

The composers featured in these concerts include Francisco Guerrero, Thomas Weelkes and Paul Mealor, who composed a version of “Ubi Caritas” for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, which the choir will be singing.

Aileen continued: “Our conductor, John Holloway, likes to put together varied programmes, often based on a particular theme. This time we’re doing music from the Renaissance period (Guerrero and Weelkes) right up to the 21st Century.”

The choir will also be singing at the Remembrance Day evening service in Cirencester Parish Church on Sunday 11th November.
