A brand new event is set to pit some of the area’s best up and coming bands against each other for the chance to perform at one of the most popular festivals in the region.

Battle of the Bands has been set up by the team behind Tewkesbury’s Big Weekend and will be held at the Roses Theatre.

“We’re always trying to think of something different to bring to the town,” said Carol Crilly, who is part of the team organising the event.

“It’s first time we’ve done it and we’ve got some great prizes on offer.”

Those prizes include a professional photoshoot, a £250 cash prize and the opportunity to play a 45-minute set at Lakefest.

On the night, each band will have a 15 minute set to perform, before a panel of local industry professionals decide who will be the winner.

When Carol spoke to The Local Answer, the acts that had been confirmed were Feed Me Milk, Quiet Pills, 52 North, Damon Quemby, and Scram.

“We approached the Roses Theatre as we want it to be a community event,” she continued.

“It’s a non-profit night, all proceeds will be going to local charities.”

The evening is just one of the events Carol is helping to organise in the build-up to May’s Tewkesbury’s Big Weekend.

First held in 2015, the Big Weekend was originally started to showcase Tewkesbury and its community spirit.

The Battle of the Bands will be at the Roses Theatre on Saturday 7th March.
