Acclaimed photographer Andy Rose will showcase his collection of travel photographs at an exhibition at Prema this month.

The arts centre, located in Uley, will offer visitors a glimpse into Andy’s travels across Europe, America, India and the Arctic. There will also be images from a recent trip to Venice, which Andy said gave him a great platform to capture some unique images. He said: “Venice was spectacular, a truly special place. I feel very fortunate to have travelled to some incredible places over the years. I visited the arctic back in 2014, that was a once in a lifetime trip. I was on a ship and we travelled around Svalbard, we managed to see a few polar bears which was a memorable experience. Some of my favourite photographs are of the glaciers and icebergs, you don’t get to appreciate the actual size of them until you’re up close.

“The exhibition at Prema is a collection of images from my travels over the past few years. The majority of my photos are of the outside world, I enjoy getting out in the wilderness and capturing the landscape. What I love about running an exhibition is the fact people can come and take their time and enjoy my work. It’s not like swiping through images on social media. We live in an age where speed seems to be the most important thing, what’s great about hosting an exhibition is it gives me time to speak to people about my photographs and the stories behind them.

“I’ve been a passionate photographer for a long time now. I used to spend plenty of time with an old camera when I was younger and that developed into a career. I started to take things seriously when digital photography came into fashion.”

With mobile phones now capable of taking top quality photographs Andy says anyone can become a photographer, as long as they have a keen eye for detail. He continued: “Photography, like so many things, is all about experience. The more photos you take the more you learn. It’s all about maximising opportunities. Current mobile phones are equipped with very impressive cameras and editing software which gives everyone an opportunity to capture amazing images. I was recently in New York and funnily enough some of the best images I got were taken on my mobile phone.”
